My second cousin’s little boy turned one!
We didn’t want a super girly, ruffly smash cake, so I piped on big dots, then scrapped them over to the side and did it again!
Still a cute, colorful cake without being too girly! I loved how it turned out!

Last weekend I was able to attend the first Breathing Space bloggers retreat over in Daybreak, UT. It was fun to catch up with old friend, meet some new friends and connect with people in real life that I’ve only known online! I really enjoyed being a part of it and I’ll post more about it later.
There were themed dinners both nights, the first night being “stepford wives” and the second night was Cinco de Mayo! We had an AMAZING dinner sponsored by Cafe Rio. Mmmm I’m totally craving it right now. If you haven’t been you should go, and they rapidly expanding all over the country!
I got to make the cake for the Cinco de Mayo dinner! And it was a BLAST! so many fun colors and such a fun and festive theme. The flowers I created were in reminder of those tissue paper flowers we all made at school.
The ruffled layer reminds me of pinata’s… And lets face it, who doesn’t love pinatas?
And the colorful chevron was because they were decorating in chevrons… I made three different flavors, my chocolate, strawberry and red velvet! They were all popular and everyone loved the cake- which tickles me to know end!

As part of the new Smash Cakes for my sisters 1 year old photography session we’ve been playing around with buttercream itty bitty cakes! These are 6 inch cakes, the perfect size for tiny hands.
I am in LOVE with this vertical ruffled cake! I still love the more heavily ruffled cake too, but this one is really VERY elegant in it’s own way!
If you want to see the smash session my sister, Chelsea Peterson Photography, has a post on it!
I used my regular buttercream recipe with shortening to hold the ruffles, but my sister said it was a real greasy mess, and so I’ll try butter next time hoping it’s easier to clean up, yet still hold the ruffles well!
Kay I’m TOTALLY in love with this cake, and the color, and that’s pretty much all there is to it! I can’t WAIT for Baby Boy’s cake smash session in just over 5 months left to decide what to do!
