Here’s the second pillow I made for SYTYC Thrift Store theme last week.  This was my favorite find of all my “fabrics”.  This sweater matches my tile back-splash PERFECTLY!  I mean PERFECTLY!!!!

See???? Okay, you can’t see, because the coloring is totally off on my camera, but you’ll have to trust me, white, tan, burgundy, green, all the same shades and colors.  LOVE it!

(ASHLEE ADD A PICTURE HERE)

It’s CRAZY!  Anyway because of the busy strip pattern on the pillow I considered keeping it simple and just making a plain pillow, but then I decided to add some texture to it.

elastic thread bobbin

So I decided to use elastic thread to gather the pillow in stripes, perpendicular to the strips on the sweater.  Wind the elastic thread on you bobbin, with a bit of tension, but not too tight.  Don’t forget to adjust the tension on your bobbin case, so the elastic thread doesn’t pull too tight and break while your sewing.

Now start sewing!!!  I chose a grey thread for my top, I think it hides nicely in the sweater.  I chose to sew my strips every 1 1/2 inches across the front and back of the body of the sweater.

It totally gathered up the body (I forgot to take a before picture I guess!!!)

now with the right sides facing each other (you can see I used white and black elastic thread- just what I had on hand).  Sew all four sides closed leaving a few inch opening to SHOVE the pillow into!  Then hand sew the opening closed!!!  All done!

So cute! A traditional girl at heart, I am kind of in love with the pin tuck pillow – so pretty. Also loving the denim herringbone.

You’re so talented. Good luck with SYTYC!

Thanks Tauni!!! I like the pintuck style a lot too. i think I’ll use it more on some pillows for my bed, once I finish my quilt.

LOVE that pillow. And, I think I’m actually capable of making it. :-) I made some shirred dresses this past summer and that looks pretty similar.

It’s totally the same technique!!!! How tight you wind your bobbin, as well as stitch length changes the outcome. I like playing around with it a bit before finalizing what I want it to look like.
