So I’ve been seeing this weird #31DBBB all over twitter lately. Since in my sleepy Mono state of mind I’ll I’ve been really able to do ll week is sit and read Twitter. I finally asked someone what it was all about. Apparently over at The blog frog, the SITS girls are hosting a 31 days to a better blog challenge.
They are starting day 4 today, so I’m behind. And honestly with 2 reunions, my anniversary, mono, a broken wrist and school starting I probably won’t get to participate every day. So I’m not an “official” participant. But I thought it would be fun to take the day’s I could and do them. I’m actually starting with day one here. The Elevator pitch. What does that mean? If you meet a stranger in the elevator and they asked you what you did (RIGHT, like anyone talks to strangers in the elevator anymore) what would you say in the short period of time you were in the elevator together. The real test is can you say, using 2-4 sentences, what your blog is about. Does it accurately portray what you WANT to say? Kind of like a mission statement for your blog.
Now this is kind of a challenge for me. In the last 6 months I went from having a blog about cakes, food and recipes to adding a craft blog, to MERGING and re-naming/branding my blog. Now adding vlogging and more personal stuff, like adding more information about living with my 4 Autistic children and husband. I fear I’ve LOST the niche I HAD. So what to do? I started blogging because I LIKE it. Even in my crafts I cycle through different styles often, and I’m afraid I blog the same way. I can’t just stick with crafts or cakes and feel that same drive forever and not feel bored, or pressured. SO I’m going to keep blogging whatever I feel like blogging (or vlogging) about and hope that SOMEONE likes it besides me.
SOOO lets start with my tagline (although it isn’t really a tagline because it’s not anywhere on my blog, but is on my facebook and twitter pages):
Cakes, Crafts and Aspergers. My life is Topsy Turvy and I love it!
I thought I’d start with that as my base. So how would I describe my blog, what I write, in just 2-4 sentences.
Cakes, Crafts and Aspergers, my blog covers Topsy Turvy life! I make cakes, meals, and share favorite recipes. I love crafts, power tools, and creating tutorials. But first and foremost I’m a mom, with my 4 little Aspies, trying to find my path as a mother wife and woman.
I’m not in love with it yet. It’s a work in progress. I’m hoping that by keeping in mind the idea of having an elevator statement will help clarify my voice and what I really want to share and write about. Bare with me and feel free to give advice!

Sounds like a topsy turvy life for sure! My mom teaches autistic children in a transitional kindergarten class, and knowing a lot of what she does, I can imagine your hands are full! Cute blog!

Thank you. It’s hard finding the right balance sometimes. Between taking care of the kids as well as making sure I’m not drowning… But I think we’re doing pretty good so far!

I really doubt I’ll get to many of them, but I’ve been so out of it that having a focus I can use daily might help get my mind back in the game!

Great job with the tag line and the elevator pitch. It really does tell us what your blog is about. And although a topsy turfy life you have, it is so evident from you blog that you love it. Way to go. PS (even if you don’t do every day of the challenge – it is being a lot of fun).

Thanks! I’ve been worrying that by losing my niche I’ve lost all hope of followers. But then realized it wasn’t going to enjoy it if I trapped myself too much. SO I’d rather do what I love and feel, and if people like it great, if they don’t it’s okay. The only thing I’m truly hoping to gain from my blog is connections and friendships and find a supporting community that I am missing here in my “real” life. SO being myself is the best way to do that. If I am able to get more from it bonus, but too draining to focus on that stuff!

Yes I did, and loved it. but I not only have a broken wrist, but Mono too, so I’m been sleeping for almost 2 1/2 weeks straight. And typing with one had is really hard. I’m working on my post about the gift. But I can’t believe I totally spaced sending you a ginormous THANK YOU email. I don’t want to give too much a way since I haven’t finished my post yet. but I loved it ALL! Working on pictures now!
