Family games- Go

My husband and I LOVE to play board and card games. We have a huge game collection and are always looking for that next amazing game. The new favorite for the year is actually a card game, Mille Borne.  So our kids have grown up seeing us playing fun games and they used to constantly ask when they could learn and to put them off we told them when they were 8 (it seemed so far off at the time).

Well now we have 2 kids who are 8 and it’s actually been great! We have a family game night at least once a week, often Sunday afternoons. A few weeks ago The Reader found my husbands Chinese game, Go, read the rules by herself and challenged him to a game. Now I’m pretty darn good at a game so it’s always bugged me a bit that I haven’t been able to grasp this game very well. Anyway, The Reader totally caught on! Granted My husband didn’t quite go as hard on her and he goes on me (or at least I tell myself that) but this is the first game they played after some brief instructional practice mini games and she totally won!!! Way to go sweetheart!

Playing games with your kids is just wonderful. My dad used to play games with us growing up. My favorites were cribbage, gin, and backgammon. These are some of the best memories I have spending time with my father. Recently I invented a card game called Speed! It uses skip counting to teach kids multiplication, and lets them have lots of fun. If you are interested you can read about it on my blog.

I love Gin! I grew up playing lots of games as well, and my siblings and I still love getting together to play, but it’s hard with such young kids so teaching them is the best way to get to play these days
