Child’s Silhouette Shirt

It was sweet Niece’s birthday a few months ago and I totally forgot about a gift.  So the night before I decided to break out my silhouette machine and attempt to make her a gift!  I had a blank shirt, and tons of silhouette supplies so I decided to try out the heat transfer material.  But what design to make?  Then I remember that I had my nieces silhouette from back when I made my mom her grandchildren’s charm bracelet. If you want to know how this is how I easily create a silhouette from a pictures here is my old post on it

Ta-da!  A heat transfer silhouette shirt.  She calls it her blue Barbie shirt (since she has a pink shirt with a barbie silhouette on it!)

I started by pulling up my nieces silhouette into the silhouette studio software and adjusting the size to just where I wanted it.

Then click on trace, trace the image you want, choose your filter (I choose 3) and click trace outer edge.

then delete the image jpg and your left with just the outline for cutting.

I wanted to add text to mine…

Don’t forget the most important step.  Once you have your image just right you HAVE to flip it horizontally so it will be right side up on your shirt!  Then pick your cut settings and run it through your machine!

peel off the excess heat transfer material, not forgetting the inside of the lettering…

place it on your shirt where you want it…

place some fabric over the heat transfer material and iron it on!!!

Peel back the clear plastic and you can be done!

But I wanted to add a bit of 3D feel, so I took some ribbon and tied it into a bow and sewed it into place!  Done!  And the birthday girl loved it!  It’s fun that she has a “barbie” shirt that is actually herself!  I think I might make a Grandmother’s shirt for my mom…  But do I go for my 5 (soon to be), or all 12???

I almost bought that instead, but was only buying one roll to try out and decided to stick with basic white. I am TOTALLY getting the flocked next time I make an order!

Thanks so much! I’m just glad she likes it, I was nervous she’d be upset it wasn’t as Barbie as her other shirt, but I thought it turned out super cute!

  2. [...] As a side note.  To create jewelry to print off, or to create a nice crisp silhouette to use with a cutting machine (like the Silhouette) it just takes a bit more photoshopping.  Instead of hand drawing extra features like the forehead curls and eyelashes I used the Photoshop brush.  Also I created a nicer looking bottom with the brush and erase tools.  Finally I selected the whole image at the edges and painted the whole thing black rather than the slightly shadowy figure from before.  Now it’s ready to re-size and print for a pendant or earrings or use with my Silhouette Machine, like this heat transfer t-shirt.
