Help! Growing up we named everything, every car we had (we went through a few: Bambi, The Boat, etc.. the ACTUAL boat was named Jaws!) had names! My sisters and I loved to name things. Well my husband is more “boring” (read practical) and thinks my naming obsession is silly. SO I haven’t named anything in years. My Tattoo and my pillow (pre-husband) both have names (Sam and Ted). My minivan is almost 7 and still doesn’t have a name (so SO sad) and neither do any of my tools and appliances. Well I’m finding the fun and joy in what I do again (I’ve been a bit stressed and focusing on things that aren’t FUN for me). SO it’s time to have some fun:
So I decided to ask for your help! This time around I need your input on names, then I’ll narrow it down to favorites (maybe adding some of my own) and we’ll have a bunch of Polls! AND I’ll send out prizes to whoever FIRST came up with the names that end up winning…. Ohhh incentive (or bribery)! Your choice of one of my crochet flower ring, egg nest pendant, Ric Rack rosebud earrings or Ric Rack rose ring:
What needs names? (disclosure, I got almost all these images from google because I didn’t want to run all over like a crazy lady cleaning each spot just to get pictures from all over the place!)

2004 Silver Honda Odyssey (this Gal couldn’t have more miles if she tried, we’ve taken her cross country more times than I can count!)

OLD Sewing Machine (this one IS my picture- Girl- doesn’t even have a brand name on it, it was my Grandma’s, leaning towards Lucille, my Grandma’s middle name)

Hobbylock Serger (Girl- my MIL wasn’t using it so I borrowed it, and now she said I can keep it! LOVE!)

Sony Cyber Shot Camera (Not sure if this is a boy or girl yet- this is the one that Kim from Today’s Creative Blog sent me!)

Kindle (This one seems to be more boyish, but I could be persuaded with the RIGHT girls name)

Hand held Rotary tool (AKA Dremel- although mine is Black and Decker) (Girl- Not all tools are boys! This is one of my go-to easy-peasy tools, etching, drilling, carving, LOVE HER!)

Flip (Eeeek! I won this bad boy from Petite Elephants giveaway with Just Ask! LOOOOOVE it!, you will SO be seeing more vlogging, tutorials and personal from this one!)

Silhouette (That’s right, I gave up winning one and bought it, and all the accessories. SHE totally needs a name, something modern, sleek, maybe even sci fi… She’s pretty, modern, can do it all, and makes everything better- no we can’t name her after me… I’m totally going to pretty up all the rest of my toys with her)
Feeling extra Namey? Your in luck, I have a more toys.
(as in naming my tools is a bonus, no incentive, prizes or bribery for these boys): my tool collection- Boys for sure, they take up tones of space, don’t always work right, but are there when you need them:

Ridgid Miter Saw, Wagner Paint Crew Spray Gun, Husky Air Compressor

Hitachi Nail Gun, Skil Jig Saw, Workforce Wet Tile Saw
![]()
Black and Decker Drill, Black and Decker belt Sander (was my FIL, but I “borrowed” it, and since I do all the household handy work it’s kind of defaulted to me!)
So that’s it, those are my toys! Let’s here your names, and next week I’ll pick the finalists!

I don’t know what you should name your items. Kind of like naming kids, it has to call to you. My little boy and I named my sewing machine Guido, because he is our favorite character in CARS

It’s okay, I’m just loving everyone’s ideas and suggestions! It’s great just to be inspired by such great ideas. Not all are names I’d consider, but all are fun to read about, and some are downright great!

The flip should be nammed Phillepe (or is spelled Philippe?), the French name for Philip. Get it? I love naming stuff! I used to do that a lot when I was young, but also stopped after getting married.

So after re-reading your post, I think your serger needs to be named Ethel since your sewing machine will be Lucille. A little I Love Lucy tribute between the two. And maybe Etta for the Silhouette?

Kirsten,
Thanks so much, it has been SUCH a relief to have the shop closed, totally freed up so much stress and pressure I didn’t even KNOW I was holding onto. Hopefully it opens up some of my creative juices with the new found space in my brain!
Names! I love Betty, I am so using it for my Bosch though (I totally forgot about my handy dandy Bosch when I put up my toys, It’s been with me longer than any of my other tools and it deserves a name), Betty is PERFECT for it! You are SO getting a nest necklace! Just let me know how many kiddo’s you have and your address!
And Demitri and Biff??? inspired, Now I’m thinking of other Russian (from Demitri, not Biff) names, like Tatiana… Something deserves to be Tatiana, don’t you think? love love LOVE them! They are SO on the final list for voting! This contest has already been such a blast and is so inspiring!
If you end up naming all your stuff you’ll have to let me know!

How fun! Let’s see…
the van – Molly (for the unsinkable Molly Brown)
sewing machine – love Lucille, Lucy for short, right?
serger – Ethel (get it? Lucy… Ethel)
the camera – it says Carl, but it looks more like a Karla to me
the kindle – Flynn (from The Librarian)
the rotary tool – Dolly (workin 9 to 5)
flip – Wilson
silhouette – Brianna
What do you think so far?

I totally get it, Lucy and Ethel! What a fun idea! My camera doesn’t actually say Carl on the front, just the closest picture online I could find. So I think your right, it’s more of a girl than a boy! Thanks so much for participating! I’ll give it a few more days then start narrowing it down!

Mikin! It’s so fun to see a familiar name on my lil’ ol blog! How crazy to see you on my side of the cyber world! Thanks for participating, how adorable that your kids call book’s bookies! We have a few things like that around here too, things we all call by a cute nickname of sorts! Adorable!

The car should be Momo.
Keep the sewing machine at Lucille.
The serger: Can’t come up with one right now.
Dremel:BB (Then it could be a boy or girl, right?)
Flip & Camera: Frick & Frack
Kindle: Tobi
The silhouette should be Lilu. (From the 5th Element…love)
The tools are tough for me right now. (Foggy moving brain and all.) Hope you’re feeling better every day now.

Hey sweet girl! Thanks for giving me a suggestion!
[Reply]
Here are my picks:
Van-Betsy (nice classic name for a lady who has served so much)
Sewing Machine-love Lucille, I would stay with that!
Serger-Lacie (my Grandma likes to make lace with her serger).
Camera-Ansel (inspired by Ansel Adams).
Kindle-Austen Lewis (after my two favorite authors Jane Austen and C.S. Lewis)
Rotary Tool-Rosie (after Rosie the Riveter from the WWII posters)
Flip- “Flip-de-dip” (can’t help it, I think it’s cute)
Silhouette-Uhuru (Swahili for freedom…that puppy looks like you have way more freedom than using an exato knife!)
That is all I have time for today…hope you get everything named! Be blessed!

Thanks for helping with naming my stuff! It’s so fun to see not only the suggestions everyone is coming up with, but also the reasons BEHIND the names! Thanks for taking the time to share! (and your right, the Silhouette machine is going to give me WAY more freedom than an exacto knife! I can’t WAIT to get it out of the box- once I have my craft room clean with a space for it!)

nothing came to mind besides Carl for the camera (umm… which is a little on the obvious side since that’s the lens name…)
and Phil for the belt sander… since it belonged to your FIL… I know the drill did too, but Phil the Drill just sounded so… ?

Thanks! The Belt Sander was my FIL, but the drill is ALL MINE!! We got a drill for a wedding present and I was like, what the???? But within a few years I had to replace it with a higher quality one, thus my love of tools began with a drill!
