Rainbow party butterfly garland

I’m working on decorations for my daughter’s rainbow garden birthday party.  I don’t have a cricut… yet.  And when I do I’ll be getting the Cricut cake, so I’m at a loss when it comes to cute cute out paper items.  BUT my son’s elementary school has this cool paper cutter with different shapes.  So when I was there this week working on my Creative writing class I saw a butterfly cut out and thought “that would work GREAT for garland!” (yes I talk to myself!).  Anyway I took over a pack of colored construction aper one afternoon and cut out all of these…

In all six colors of the rainbow!  Isn’t it pretty already?

So to make it stronger, thicker and have an option of a more 3D look I put two butterflies together

Then put it into my machine.  It’s set at the LONGEST stitch in a straight line.  Pulling out a few inches of thread to start with I started at the head and sewed my way down to the tail.

Keeping it straight wasn’t so bad, but I kept catching my middle finger on the screw that holds the needle in place.  Ouch!

When your done sewing through to keep length between each butterfly set you’ll want to pull the thread to your desired length, trying to keep it as even as possible.  Don’t forget to hold on to that thread through the first stitch in the next butterfly or the top thread will pull itself tight again.  And here you go!  I’ll show pictures on the day of the party so you can see how it looks hanging up for real~!
