Here’s the third pillow I made for my SYTYC Thrift Store Challenge. I, like everyone else, love ruffles, and knew I needed at least one ruffled pillow.
So as I was looking at pillow at my local thrift store ran into the bedding rack! And I found this perfect shade of green in a bed skirt! Isn’t it lovely????
I know it doesn’t look green in these pictures, (grrrrr I need a new camera, but at this point I’d be happy if this one was working again, I hate not having a camera!) so you’ll just have to trust me, but it’s this great shade of jade that matches my back-splash as well as the jade in my granite counter-top.
I decided to use the edges as they were already hemmed, and I cut 4 inch strips from the bottom to use for the ruffles.
I also used the pillow as a template and cut out the main body. This is for sewing the ruffles onto.
using the same pre-hemmed edges I cut out t large pieces for overlapping and turning into an envelope closure for my pillowcase.
using a washable pen (okay I’m lying, I couldn’t find my washable fabric pen, so this is just a normal pen. Gah… DON’T take that short cut, it shows when my ruffles move too much.). Sew the ruffles onto the front of our new pillowcase. I used my handy dandy ruffler. One of my favorite purchases of this last year. Love love LOVE it! for this I set it to ruffle every 6th stitch and actually not very deep. Just enough for a little ruffle action but not too much!
Here is the front finished…
Now, right sides together, pin the 2 pieces on the envelop closure onto the front. and sew around the entire outside.
And it’s finished!!! A fun ruffled pillow!!! No dealing with hems, LOVE it!
Don’t forget to check out the tutorials for the other pillows

Great pillows! I’ve been on a ruffling kick lately and have been using up all my old sheet scraps and ruffling them up!
