I haven’t always been a blogger, but I HAVE always been a crafter! SO every once in a while I’ll fondly remember something I made B.B. (before blog) and want to share it with you, thus my Friday Flashbacks! This week? My homemade You are Special Plate for birthday’s!

I grew up with the classic red you are special plate (in fact I own one… somewhere). But when I saw this at a church craft day I knew I HAD to make one. I hand painted the cupcake wrapper, candle and flame (my favorite part- it turned out amazing). Then used dowels in different shapes to get the polka-dots. Then puffy paint of some kind (sorry, it was too long ago to remember what kind) for the words and the frosting and sprinkles!  Let it dry, paint over it with clear something or other and put it in the kiln (the teacher had one- how FUN would that be!)

I love it! So cute! I made one at a Color Me Mine pottery place years ago with all of our names on it. I don’t use it as often as I used to. ..I always forget!

I always forget too! This is the first birthday we pulled it out for in over 2 years!!! GAH! Of course in my defense it was in a box in storage until last month!

Thanks! It’s fun how something so simple can really make a kids day that much brighter! We celebrate birthday’s for a week, so I had to wash it every day so he could use it all week long!
