So I’ve been pondering getting back into teach cake decorating again. BUT I don’t want to work for Wilton at a Michaels this time (doesn’t pay good enough, and too constrained by their methods- although it’s a great place to start, I really enjoyed my time with them). I want to be able to teach my own style and my own tips. I’m wondering if there is enough interest out there for me to move forward.

You see in have this little basement apartment kitchen and I think I’d have to start there. And since I don’t have anyplace else to go that’s where I’d have to start. If interest got big enough I could look into another location. So how about it. Any locals out there want to learn basic cake decorating? How about working with Fondant? Or carving cakes? Baking tips?

And what about the time. For be the best time would be while most of my kids are in school. Evenings get tough around here without a separate location for teaching. I think I could use my in laws kitchen sometimes upstairs, but not as often as the afternoons downstairs.

So anyone local interested? What days and times work best in your lives? I’m also thinking about offering in home private lessons, where I would come to you, or you and a small group of friends. I’ve had interest in the past of coming and helping with a specific cake the day before your big event. Does that appeal to anyone? Well just a thought.

oh, that would be amazing! I’m thinking Tuesday’s would work best for me, since I only have one class. But I’m not sure I’d be able to make it, no matter the day. :(

what a super idea – wish I lived a little closer – because the Wilton method is… well, maybe “constraining” is the best word?

If you ever decide you need a trip down South… pop me a message, I bet I can find a few gals for a home party! (not that my kitchen is HUGE… but I’ve been known to decorate a few cakes there in my time… and it’s sufficient for the needs…)

some bakeries might sponsor a class. or find out if you can host one through your local chapter of ICES or other cake decorating club. someone might be looking for a teacher for their upcoming cake convention.
i teach very basic beginner fondant classes. my first one was at my house, then word of mouth spread and now i do it as a “girls night out” type of thing. way fun and low pressure.
you can also (if enough interest) contact local community centers to see how much they charge to rent a room.
i taught a class at a scrapbook store, but that was using the cricut for cake decorating, so it fit…my mom invented that method so it’s been fun to teach.

  6. Do you ever come to AZ? We might be able to set up a workshop here? I’d love to learn some of your techniques! I’m not so interested in taking a Wilton class.

I haven’t been back to AZ in years, but I do have family and friends down there. We might just have to come up with something!

I would love to learn more but finding time to take a class is a problem for me. But I love the Lady’s night out and working with fondant.

I am going through DVR Department Vocational Rehab and they tell me it isn’t need for that type of business. I want to start teaching cake decorating in my home. I live in Wisconsin any body that has a business or can give me some help I would greatly appreciate it.
