So to go along with my Token System Chore Chart I made this first video, or Part 1 on how we handle the token system and dinner. And here is the second installment on how we use the token system to handle video games and movies. My kids would play video games 24/7 if we let them. But they turn into MONSTERS with too much stimulation (thats another reason we don’t have TV), let alone rotting their minds. I personally like video games, but don’t think kid’s need to spend too much time on them so we, my husband and I, not to let the kids get into video games. But like all parenting, or Never say Never moments, it didn’t work. All the kids like video games, especially Computer Boy. He lives for computer games, really. It’s the one thing he cares about enough that it works for rewards, punishments, bribing, etc… A useful tool as a parent. But he was playing too much, he was playing it (for a short time each) every time we wanted to reward him for good behavior. With this system we reward behavior constantly with tokens and they can save them up to pay for computer game time. We give tokens for just about everything, one here, one here, one there. But then CHARGE multiple tokens for games (movies, etc..) so it’s a better balance. Oh and I have a one hour limit per day OR one movie, so it never get’s to be too much. Also? The kids have decided they want a game system (we just use computer games now). So they are saving up their tokens for one!

Great idea. Especially for younger kids. Tangible rewards are often easiest.
